Girard "Diagonals" Blanket's two-colour pattern were initially created as print motifs for decorative wall panels, fabrics or cushions. In cooperation with the Girard family, Vitra realised the graphic motifs using a Jaquard weaving technique for wool blankets. This has an added effect of making combinations of powerful and opaque tones appear in changing compositions.

Alexander Girard became head of the textiles department at Herman Miller, so that numerous patterns and textile designs appeared by him in the 1950s. Together with George Nelson and Charles and Ray Eames, Girard was part of a design team that influenced the basics of design, from the United States to the rest of the world.

Many of the popular and classic designs created by Girard as upholstery and cover fabrics or curtains are still available today and haven’t lost any of their modernity.
